G. John Coates

G. John Coates of Warwick died peacefully at home with his wife Jackie at his side on Saturday, July 18, 2020.

He was born on July 15, 1941, and had just celebrated his 79th birthday.

John leaves behind his wife and best friend of 40 years, Jacqueline Price Coates. He was the son of Gilbert and Helen Lockwood Coates. He was predeceased by his brother Robert Coates.

He is survived by his brother Gary and his wife Yvonne Coates of Sussex, N.J.; he is also survived by his nephew Lawson and his wife Michelle of Denville, N.J., and niece Julie Haran and her husband Edward of New Egypt, N.J. He also leaves behind his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Frank and Vicki Price of Muskegon, Michigan.

John attended Orange County Community College.

He spent the beginning of his career working on pipelines across the United States. In 1980 he became the owner/operator of the Wonderbar located in Goshen. He could talk to anyone about anything and always had a story to share. He retired in 2005.

John spent his retirement enjoying family, friends and pets. He also had a small colony of feral cats that he looked after.

He loved the game of pool and spent as much time as his health permitted playing the game.

At John’s request and because of the COVID-19 restrictions there will be no viewing or funeral service. There will be a memorial service to celebrate John’s life at a later date.
