Social media campaign celebrates Library Card Sign-Up Month
NEWTON. On Oct. 1st all participants will be entered into a pool, and a name drawn to win a Kindle Fire 7, perfect for downloading the SCLS’ wide selection of eBooks and eAudio.
The Sussex County Library System (SCLS) is celebrating Library Card Sign-up Month this September with a social media campaign that encourages the public to #getcardedatscls.
Everyone registering for the first time, or renewing an existing card during the month of September, will be encouraged to take a selfie with the SCLS giant library card, and publicly post it to their favorite social media account with the hashtag #getcardedatscls. Current library cardholders can enter by posting a selfie with the Library Card Will (a life-sized photo of Library Director Will Porter) display that is traveling around the county. Photos with Library Card Will also need to be public postings with the hashtag #getcardedatscls.
Where Is Library Card Will? hints will be posted on the SCLS Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts. Cardholders with no social media can ask to be entered by showing their selfies to library staff.
On Oct. 1st all participants will be entered into a pool, and a name drawn to win a Kindle Fire 7, perfect for downloading the SCLS’ wide selection of eBooks and eAudio.
This September marks the 32nd anniversary of Library Card Sign-up month, a time when the American Library Association and libraries across the country join together to remind the public that libraries offer resources and services to help them pursue their passions
“People often ask me if libraries are still relevant,” mused Library Director Will Porter. “We are always evolving. With the proliferation of online resources, we can focus more attention on things like early literacy, cultural and educational events and helping job seekers. More importantly, the library is a great place to spend time with other members of the community, learning or just enjoying yourself. That’s relevant to everyone, even if you’re not a big reader.”
The SCLS is comprised of six locations: the Main Library in Frankford; Dennis Branch in the heart of Newton; Louise Childs Branch in Hopatcong; Dorothy Henry Branch in Vernon; the Franklin Branch on Main Street in Franklin; and the Sussex-Wantage Branch next to the Sussex airport. In addition to books, movies, magazines and all the traditional things usually found in public libraries, the SCLS also offers public computers; scanning, faxing and printing; public Wi-Fi; a small business center with poster and banner printing at the Main Library; and free Notary services by appointment.
