3 now face manslaughter charges

Second-degree reckless manslaughter charges were filed Aug. 29 against three residents earlier charged in connection with a 1-year-old child found dead in a home in Andover Township.
Julie Taylor, 48; Stephen Dagis, 52; and Sarah Vanderbilt, 34; are being held in the Morris County Correctional Facility awaiting appearances in Superior Court in Sussex County.
They had been charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child after a week-long investigation. The child’s death was reported Aug. 20. There were reports of controlled dangerous substances and drug paraphernalia in the home.
DWI charge
Ethan Reiss, 30, of Flanders faces driving while intoxicated and other charges after his vehicle was stopped Aug. 24 in Byram.
A township police officer who was controlling traffic at a construction site on a closed section of Route 206 South near Waterloo Road saw a vehicle drive around his vehicle and through traffic-control cones that indicated the road was closed.
The officer followed the vehicle in an attempt to stop it, but the driver went through other cones and passed a police officer standing in the roadway who signaled that it should stop. The driver eventually pulled over near the Exxon.
While an officer was speaking to the driver, Reiss, the officer suspected that he was intoxicated. He was asked to perform several field sobriety tests, which he failed.
Reiss was arrested and taken to the police station, where he consented to and failed two breath tests.
He also was charged with open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle, careless driving, reckless driving, failure to obey traffic control device, disregard of officer directing traffic, traffic on marked lanes, failure to pull over for an emergency vehicle, failure to change lanes for an emergency vehicle, failure to obey signal of police, failure to comply with the direction of an officer and driving on a closed roadway.
He was released pending an appearance in Andover-Joint Municipal Court.
DUI charge
Paul Mcveigh, 23, of Parsippany was charged with driving under the influence July 30 after a motor vehicle accident involving a deer was reported in Sparta.
Patrolman Matthew Pletcher responded to West Mountain Road and talked to the driver, Mcveigh. The officer suspected that he had consumed alcoholic beverages and was showing signs of impairment.
Mcveigh was asked to perform field sobriety tests after he was taken to Sparta Police Headquarters. After the tests, he was arrested.
Further investigation showed that the accident occurred in Franklin and did not involve a deer, police said.
Mcveigh refused to provide breath samples and also was charged with refusal to submit to breath testing, reckless driving, failure to report accident, open container of alcoholic beverage, careless driving and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident.
DUI charge
Carissa Kalaydjian was charged with driving under the influence about 6:40 p.m. Aug. 1 after she was found slumped over the wheel of her vehicle near ShopRite in Sparta.
Patrolman Erick Finley found Kalaydjian in a red Ford Explorer that was running and parked in a parking stall. She was asleep and slumped over the steering wheel, police said.
After waking her up and talking to her, Finley suspected that she had consumed alcoholic beverages and was showing signs of impairment.
Kalaydjian was asked to perform field sobriety tests, then was arrested and taken to Sparta Police Headquarters.
After completing breath testing, she also was charged with careless diving, failure to possess motor vehicle registration and failure to possess a valid insurance card.
She was released to a sober adult pending an appearance in Sparta Municipal Court.
