Pacem in Terris presents "A Celebration of the Wawayanda River" on both Saturday, Aug. 31, and Sunday, Sept. 1.
Saturday: The Serenade Quartet
The Serenade Quartet - Krista Bennion Feeney and Keats Dieffenbach on violins, David Cerutti on viola and John Feeney on bass - will present a concert with percussionist Dan Haskins on Aug. 31 at 5 p.m.
The ensemble will be joined by internationally recognized soprano Abigail Fischer and tenor Jason Slayden (who incidentally are married residents of Orange County), presenting water-themed music and songs. These will include Schubert's Fischerweise and the duet by Brahms Es rauschet das Wasser, and more songs to be announced.
Other works performed by the ensemble to include a Haydn Quartet and Mendelssohn's Fingal's Cave.
Sunday: The Serenade Orchestra
On Sunday, Sept. 1, at 5 p.m., the Serenade Orchestra - Krista Bennion Feeney and Keats Dieffenbach on violins, Jessica Troy on viola, John Feeney on bass, RJ Kelley and Alexandra Cook on horns, will play Beethoven’s Sextet in E Flat major Op. 81b.
The first edition of this work in 1810 by Simrock (Beethoven's friend) was scored for violoncello e basso.
By 1846 publishers had removed basso and ever since it has been performed only with cello.
In 2007 it was published by Henle with a bass and cello part. The Serenade Orchestra will perform it with bass. Cast in a delightful Serenade style, this is Paganini for the horns. The musicians will also perform Mendelssohn's Fingal's Cave once again, only this time with two horns instead of percussion, and other works to be announced.
The program will conclude with the Serenade Orchestra's signature waltz: "By the Beautiful Blue Danube" by Johann Strauss ll.
