Harmony Awarness Week

It’s been written that singing daily for at least 10 minutes reduces stress, clears sinuses, improves posture, and can even help you live longer.

Feb. 9 to 15 has been designated as “Harmony Awareness Week” by the international organization of Harmony, Inc. The NJ chapter of this women’s a cappella singing organization is Harmony in Motion, located in Sussex County.

This chorus now boasts of more than 50 members, many of whom meet weekly to rehearse at Bristol Glen in Newton on Monday nights. Together they blend their voices in four-part harmony — tenors, leads, baritones and basses — to create a unique style of music.

Along with sharing their mutual enjoyment of singing, this group of women also learns various techniques to improve upon their craft.

Funding for the chorus has been made available in part by the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, through the State/County Partnership Block Grant Program, as administered by the Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council.

For women who enjoys singing and would like to share in the many benefits — health and otherwise — that are offered, they are invited to call Eileen at 973-875-9264 and arrange to visit Harmony in Motion any Monday night at 7 p.m. at Bristol Glen on Route 206 in Newton.

This women’s chorus always welcomes new singers. For scheduling performances, call Judi at 973-570-4333, and for more information about this group, visit their updated website at www.harmonyinmotion.net.
