Public should vote on water sales

I encourage the Sussex Borough Council to draft and pass an ordinance requiring all future governing bodies to arrange a referendum vote in order to sell the water/sewer utility. Let me go on record now to say that I strongly agree that this is the right way to approach this all-important issue for every Sussex Borough resident. Unlike those that have voted in the past to take away your voice at the ballot box, I strongly favor a referendum for decisions of this magnitude.

The utility infrastructure and equipment belong to the citizens and taxpayers of Sussex Borough. We're all in this together. We all have the high water/sewer bills, and together, we all had the opportunity to vote upon the system sale last November.

As a true conservative Republican, I would never want to take away any person's right to vote on any issue. The people spoke last November with their votes, and we continue to own the water/sewer system's assets and liabilities. If in the future, an opportunity arises and a council does want to explore selling the system again, and if I am mayor, I promise to discuss the issue publicly and to take any decision to a referendum vote.

Like I said, we're all in this together, and the decision will be ours to make.
