Hunger doesn't take a vacation

RoNetco Supermarkets, operators of ShopRite stores in Sussex, Morris and Warren counties, participated in an additional ShopRite Partners in Caring promotion to heighten awareness of the issue of hunger during the summer months.

RoNetco’s seven ShopRite supermarkets were able to raise $21,253 in a two week period from June 21 through July 4. Summer months bring challenges to many families who rely on their children receiving a nutritionally balanced breakfast and lunch from school each day.

During the summer months, food banks experience difficulty in keeping the shelves full stocked. Now, with this large donation, the NORWESCAP food bank in Phillipsburg can replenish their inventory to provide food pantries, shelters, group homes, churches, and camps in Sussex and Warren counties with food products. They will also get a great jump on their Backpack Program, where they send home a backpack full of food for a child in need to eat over the weekend during the school year.

RoNetco is grateful for the generosity of its customers who made the two week fundraising initiative so successful. The ShopRite Partners in Caring program is committed to practicing social responsibility by supporting the efforts of local food pantries as they work tirelessly to provide assistance for those in our communities.

The official Partners in Caring Campaign begins on Aug. 23 and runs through September, which is Hunger Action Month.
