    Matthew William Mitchell, 20, died from complications of a spinal cord injury due to a skiing accident in January. Matthew passed away at St. Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, N.J., on Saturday July 25, 2015.

    Matthew as born in Pompton Plains and was a long time resident of Vernon Township and was a graduate of Vernon High School, class of 2013. Matthew was employed at UPS in Parsippany, N.J., and was planning on attending Lincoln Tech. Matthew enjoyed hiking, fishing and skiing.

    Matthew is survived by his parents Kelly and Thomas Mitchell, his siblings Billy and Hannah both at home, and his grandfathers, William Hayes of Sparta, and Charles Mitchell of Wayne.

    Relatives and friends will be received at Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home 241 Rt. 94, Vernon, NJ (GPS use 1 Vanderhoof Court) on Monday July 27, from 4-8 p.m. The family will gather at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 28, at 9 a.m. for a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial service at Our Lady of Fatima RC Church, Highlands, N.J., committal interment services at Glenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Kessler Foundation, 300 Executive Dr., Suite 70, West Orange, NJ 07052 would be appreciated.
