    July 10Salvatore Varon, 48, of Vernon was charged with interfering with transportation, vandalizing a railroad crossing and trespassing.

    Police said they received calls from a motorist reporting a shirtless man climbing the McAfee railroad crossing signal. Police said upon arrival, they saw an adult male jumping up and down on the cross member of the railroad of the railroad crossing signal arm, which was about 20 feet in height. Police also said they discovered the suspect allegedly placed railroad ties and said he wedged rocks in the tracks.

    Police said a computer check revealed an arrest warrant from Haledon Municipal Court. He was sent to the Sussex County Jail.

    July 11Darren Weigel, 22, of Highland Lakes was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, throwing debris from a motor vehicle, possessing a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle and failure to exhibit auto insurance. he also was charged with possessing less than 50 grams of marijuana.

    Police said they responded to a report of a car into the woods off Canistear Road. Police said witnesses saw the driver consuming alcohol in his vehicle before the accient and throwing cans of beer out ofhis vehicle after the incident. Police said Weigel was arrested after roadside sobriety tests were conducted. As the vehicle was pulled out of the woods, police said they saw a clear baggy of marijuana.

    Weigel was released pending a future court date.
