Brittany Ast, a 2011 graduate of Vernon High School and a member of the Sussex, Warren and Hunterdon County lacrosse champions, recently concluded her college lacrosse career with the University of New Haven.

The Chargers womenls lacrosse team has been ranked as high as fourth nationally with a top 5 ranked defense in the country. Ast led the Chargers in 2015 with 55 ground balls and 27 caused turnovers on their way to an 11-2 conference record and an overall record of 15-4. She was a standout in a game in which University of New Haven handed the nationally ranked No. 1 Adelphi University its only loss of the year.

Ast's defensive dominance and speed was a big factor in the Chargers' game plan with her ability to transition the ball up the field. The defense was ranked nationally, giving up an average of only 7.95 goals per game. Ast was recognized for her accomplishments during her junior season with a second team All-American nod. She finished her outstanding career this year with a first-team All-American honors and was also named the Division II Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association — Defensive Player of the Year.
