Putting contest ends quickly

The Putting Contest was quickly decided at the 3rd Crystal Springs Golf Resort’s 3rd Member Appreciation Tournament on Friday, July 10 when one of the first competitors, Al Izzi holed out his 50 foot putt.

None of the other competitors was able to duplicate his feat giving Izzi the win.

The third Member Appreciation Tournament was played on the Crystal Springs Golf Course.

The format of the event was a two-golfer Team Scramble Better Ball competition with prizes awarded in 4 Divisions: men’s low gross/low net; senior low gross/low net; women’s low net and couples low net.

When play was concluded the Men’s Team of James Conrad and Pete Cairnie had the best low gross score of 6 under par 66. The men's team of Don Hemberger and Richard Thomson carded low net score of 10-under-par 62 and the Senior Division Team of John Schneider and Bill Iolonardi won their low net title with a net score of 9 under par 63.

Robert Wallerius and Donna Wallerius repeated as the winners of the Couples Division with a net score of 9-under-par 63. Joan Huffine and Mary Lou Nicolletti took top honors in the Women’s Division with a net score of 5 under par 67.

The skill competition winners were Johnathan Rose whose tee shot landed 18 inches from the pin on hole No. 5. Robert Mosier whose shot landed 3 feet, 2 inches from the pin on hole No. 15, and Mary Lu Nicoletti, whose tee shot came to rest 13 feet 11 inches from the cup on hole No. 13. The men’s long drive winner was Steve Pezzino, with Donna Wallerius taking long drive honors for the Women and Gerry Bohm winning the long drive competition for the seniors.

The next Member Appreciation Tournament is scheduled to be played on the Black Bear Golf Curse on Wednesday, Aug. 19.
