A community yard Sale in support of the Highland Lakes Goodwill Fund will take place on Saturday, July 18, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Highland Lakes Clubhouse, located at the intersection of Breakneck Road and Lakeside Drive West in Highland Lakes section of Vernon Township.

The “rain or shine” event is open to members of Highland Lakes and the general public.

“Each year this event seems to grow in popularity,” said Liz Holda, co-chair of the Goodwill Fundraising Committee and one of the Yard Sale organizers. “Members of Highland Lakes know this sale is coming and they prepare for it during the year. It offers the perfect opportunity for them to donate items that they no longer use. Once they donate the item, our committee members price it for the sale, organize the items so that buyers can easily see what is available and then when the doors open on Saturday morning, the fun begins!”

The event brings donations from throughout the community filling the entire HL Clubhouse and the lawn area with merchandise.

Items of all descriptions are “priced to sell” in the spirit of community fellowship. Last year tables were filled with small appliances, dishes, kitchen towels, table cloths, lamps and other furnishings.

“We sold many high quality children’s toys that were in great condition and tools that went as soon as the event began,” said Nancy Eisenberg, the committee’s other co-chairwoman. "Outdoor play equipment, arts and craft items, and sporting goods were also in high demand. '

Donations for the event come exclusively from the Highland Lakes community. All items must be in good condition. Televisions, computers, landline phones, answering machines, cribs, car seats, exercise equipment, luggage without wheels, stuffed animals and clothing are not accepted.

Members also have the option of renting space where they are free to set up their own tables and sell items independently. Last year, historic Highland Lakes memorabilia was very popular and a number of vendors were selling quality furnishings and framed mirrors.

Homemade refreshments will be sold throughout the day and the grill will be fired up at lunchtime.
