Suspects charged in alleged Franklin Elementary School burglary

Three Vernon residents face burglary charges after Franklin police responded to a burglar alarm at Franklin Elementary School on Sunday, July 5.

Andrew J. Bagni and Joseph D. Moeller, both 20, were charged with burglary and criminal mischief. A third suspect, Randall J. Nemeth, 20, was charged with defiant trespassing.

Police said officers responded to the alarm and discovered individuals had entered the school, causing minor property damager. Police said it appeared the loss was less than $500.

After an investigation, police said three apparently intoxicated males walked onto school property on July 5 at about 4:40 a.m., and two of them — Bagni and Moeller — allegedly entered the Franklin Elementary School through an unsecured second-story window. Police allege the males caused minor damage to a wall and items in various classrooms, including an American flag. Police allege Nemeth entered the the property without authorization.

Bagni and Moeller are scheduled to appear in Sussex County Superior Court on Wednesday. Nemeth is scheduled to apper in Franklin Municipal Court on Monday, July 13.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
