VERNON — Students at Glen Meadow Middle School recently received a visit from Kingo Wong, manager of Asian Fusion restaurant Wings, after they finished reading the novel "So Far From the Bamboo Grove." Some of the themes of the novel were hard work, determination and sacrifice. When Wong described how he arrived in New York City from Hong Kong at the age of 19 with only $35 in his pocket, and not knowing a single soul, his life story seemed to relate. With his willingness to work hard, not shying away from any job no matter how menial, Kingo told the students he was always observing and learning, and eventually worked his way up through the restaurant business in Manhattan. He continued working while attending college and persevered in following his dream to one day own his own business. Today, he is the proud owner of Wings in Vernon.
