Scholastic has named Emily McGovern, Glen Meadow Middle School student, as winner of the Scholastic Scope "Toy Contest" national essay contest. McGovern, a seventh-grade student in Jacqueline Clifford’s Language Arts class, wrote an essay explaining the role of the Consumer Product Safety Commission. In her essay McGovern took a clear stand on whether the commission was right to ban Buckyballs. Scholastic Scope was impressed with McGovern's entry and her use of supporting evidence from multiple texts. She received a copy of "Doll Bones" by Holly Black.
