The Sussex County Community College Board of Trustees has appointed Frank Nocella as the college's interim president.

Nocella, currently the college's executive vice-president of finance and operations, will replace outgoing president Paul Mazur.

Nocella will receive a $1,500-a-month stipend on top of his current salary, to take the new position.

The appointment was approved by the board unanimously Tuesday.

A search is currently underway for a permanent president at the college.

The board also unanimously approved appointing Wiss & Company to oversee the college's finances during the presidential search and transition as Nocella takes on the new role.

The company will be paid a maximum of $10,000.

The firm will report directly to Board of Trustees President Lorraine Parker.

The moves follow a decision by the board and administration to layoff 11 employees at the college last month as enrollment has declined and revenues have not kept up with spending.
