Rizzuto spins for Marotta

Apparently, Councilman Rizzuto finds my statements, regarding the current financial condition of Vernon and the latest bond for $1.266 million, worthy of response. Of course, I want safe passage for the people who use Lake Wallkill Road. The mayor’s promise, evidenced in the council meeting minutes of Feb. 4, 2012, states: The mayor noted that this improvement plan would come from our operating budget without the need for bonding. What happened, Mr. Rizzuto?

How many tons of salt do we need to buy at a reduced price before the cost of a new salt shed ($486,000) is justified? How does a larger salt shed prevent a market shortage? This is nonsensical, wasteful spending, Mr. Rizzuto. What happened to paying for our replacement vehicles from the budget? And please stop using drama to play upon the emotions of the taxpayerm implying if we didn’t bond, our police wouldn’t have proper equipment. What happened to the expert financial skills of your friend, the mayor? It seems his only skill is requesting to borrow money and your skill is to approve it by your vote.

No other town in Sussex County increased the size of their government in these difficult economic times, except Vernon. Bonding (increasing debt) has become the hallmark of this administration. Vernon’s budget is balanced by using debt for expenditures. You claim debt was decreased by $963,152, but you borrowed $10,000,000. Vernon cannot afford four more years of your logic or the mayor’s deals.
