On Tuesday, June 23, rising country music sensation and Newton resident Rachel Allyn will open for country duo LOCASH at State Fair Meadowlands. The fair, which runs from June 19 through July 5, is located in the State Fair Meadowlands fairgrounds next to MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford.

Allyn, a graduate of Belmont University in Nashville who writes her own songs, will perform for fans with a fast-paced, fun set of music including hits from her latest record, “Do It Yourself,” and covers from some of her favorite singer songwriters.

Allyn, who grew up in Ogdensburg, first discovered her musical interest at just 2 years old, when she would sing Beatles songs with her father before going to sleep at night. By the age of 10, she had entered and won her first talent show in her hometown, a feat that she says inspired her to pursue her music career.

Since releasing her first EP in 2009, "Late Nights and Early Mornings," Allyn has performed more than 100 shows a year up and down the East coast, including many performances in her home state of New Jersey. Her most recent album, "Do it Yourself," was released in February 2013, and she has plans to begin recording her third album this summer.

“I really feel like I’ve grown as a writer since my last album came out and I am so excited about how the material is lining up for this one,” Allyn said. “I have lots of exciting plans for this record and I cannot wait to get some new music out.”

Allyn has previously opened for several big names in country music, including Thompson Square, Brett Eldridge, Sara Evans, and twice for Country Music Hall of Fame member Kenny Rogers, and she is looking forward to opening for LOCASH for the first time in her home state.

“I have heard that they are great guys and that they are excited to have me on the show, which means a lot and makes me even more excited to hit that stage,” Allyn said.

LOCASH duo Chris Lucas and Preston Brust will perform at State Fair Meadowlands as part of a national tour to promote their latest album, which includes “I Love This Life,” which has hit the top 50 on the Billboard charts.

The concert, located at the American Stage inside the fairgrounds, is free with fair admission ticket. On Tuesday, June 23, admission tickets to the fair are $10 for those 13 and older and $8 for those 12 and younger. Children under 34” tall are admitted free.

State Fair Meadowlands is the largest fair in the New York metro area, with more than 150 rides and attractions on more than 35 acres of fairgrounds.
