Explore beautiful gardens in your own backyard

The Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council presents its 17th Annual Historic House and Garden Tour on Saturday, June 20, with a rain date of June 21.

This year’s self-guided tour “Explore Beautiful Gardens in Your Own Backyard” takes place in Sussex County on June 20th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Locations of the gardens and houses featured on the tour this year include: Fredon, Newton, Andover and Sparta.

Garden lovers, info seekers, and history buffs alike will find useful information on this tour.

On the day of the tour, ticket holders will receive a map and driving directions along with descriptions of the gardens and homes.

The Council has arranged for “En plein air” artists to be at each of the sites. Artwork by each individual artist will be available for purchase.

On the day of the tour three local restaurants will be offering food and beverages to tour participants at discounted pricing of 10 percent.

Of special interest is an original Lake Mohawk Lakestyle Home built in 1931. This noteworthy home has been enhanced with many unique custom details including extensive stonework, woodwork, carvings and views of the lake. Some of the terrain may be difficult.

Ticket price for members is $22. For non-members tickets are $22 when purchased in advance and $25 when purchased at the door on the day of the event. Advance tickets may be ordered by calling the Arts Council (973-383-0027), coming into the Arts Council in person or, through EventBright.
