Ballyowen hosts member tourney

HARDYSTON — The popularity of the Crystal Springs Golf Resort’s Member Appreciation Tournaments produced a sellout number of members registered to play in the second in a season-long series of events that will produce qualifiers to compete in the end of year Crystal Cup Championship.

This month’s event was held on Wednesday, June 3, at Ballyowen Golf Club.

The top score of six under par 66 was earned by the team of Joe Shields and Mike Clohessy and good enough to defeat the second-place team of Harold Wolters and Ray Rafferty, who earned the number two spot by a match of cards with the team of Gen Komorowski and John Danckwerth each one stroke back from the winners with scores of 67.

The team of Bob Mosier and Ed Lemire took top honors for the Senior Gross Division while Tom Ruhmann and Michael Vedral Sr. won the Senior Low Net Division. The team of Barbara Newhouse and Lisa Roth were the winners of the Women’s Division with the husband-and-wife team of Robert and Dona Wallenius outperforming the team of Buffy and John Whiting to win the Couples Division. The putting-contest winner Juan Goyzueta was able to capture the win with a putt that came to a halt just 9 inches from the cup.

Eric Maier was the winner of the closest to the pin competition on hole number 4 with his tee shot landing 7’6” from the pin, while Bob Spetz took honors on hole number 11 with a shot that came to a halt 8 feet from the pin. Dona Wallerius was the victor in the ladies long drive competition on hole number 5 with Ralph Jones delivering the longest drive for men.
