Top three issues: 1. Economic development. One of the best features about our borough is that we’re a walking community with potential for a great Main Street area. We need to encourage smart growth along the new commercial zone on Route 23 by actively pursuing opportunities for people to come here to not only do business in this new corridor, but to also reinvigorate the Main Street area. We need to use county resources such as the Chamber of Commerce in our community. 2. Relations with other communities. Recent losses of shared services with neighboring communities have cost our residents a lot of money and increased our taxes. “You can’t be part of the solution, if you are part of the problem.” I have always had good relations with elected officials from other communities and I would try to create opportunities for shared services that make sense for our community. 3. Making Sussex Borough more livable. There are a lot of residents who would like to see the hospital return to a fully operational 24-hour facility. Going to Newton for hospital services in this county should not be our only option. Also, it’s getting more expensive to live here. Residents with fixed incomes are going to feel these increased costs the most. We need someone to advocate for the community residents and senior citizens. We need to improve the relationship between our senior residents and county and state offered services.
