Top three issues: 1. The Sussex Borough DPW needs to be done by our own employees not by shared services. Having our own DPW can run more efficiently and save money. With shared services traveling back and forth between two towns, this in itself cost more, not to mention the damage to the equipment. Some steps have already taken place with the hiring of a new employee to start the ball rolling. 2. Main Street needs to be redone. The sidewalks have been in bad shape for a while and I would like to see new sidewalks and the street repaved. The pavers on the sidewalk are broken and dangerous to walk on. The drainage along Main Street needs work; some catch basins are to low and can cause damage to vehicles. I would like to see the store fronts improved and also some decorations for the change of seasons, it would be a plus and add to the charm of our town. 3. I will NOT vote as a council member to sell our water/sewer system. Sussex Borough qualifies for grant money. We are now in the process of getting funding to help with the cost of all major work. A lot of work has been done, shut off valves and fire hydrants have already been installed. We also have new equipment at the water plant and are in compliance with the DEP. With the new hook-ups that are in the works, along with the available funding, the cost of the resident’s water/ sewer bills will be lowered and we will have a system that is functioning properly.
