Giant Gymnastics will celebrate Olympic Day by hosting 2 sessions of Open Gym, free to members and non-members, on June 5 from 7-9 p.m. at the gym at 34 White Lake Road in Sparta.

“We are excited to take part in Olympic Day and inspire kids in the Sussex County community,” said co-owner Jennifer Skorski, who has been involved in the sport since the age of 3. Starting as a gymnast who grew up with and competed in the sport, Skorski was coaching by 16, and opened the first of two gyms with her husband, John Skorski, eight years ago. “Giant Gymnastics is proud to support the Olympic Movement and encourage children to lead healthy, active lives.”

Giant’s Olympic Day event is one of more than 1.044 events taking place nationwide from this June. The events, designed to engage youth and promote the ideals of the Olympic movement, family-friendly activities and interactive learning experiences.

Around the world, more than 160 countries take part in the annual celebration. Olympic Day, created in 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games, focuses on the Olympic values and ideals such as fair play, perseverance, respect and sportsmanship. In the U.S., Olympic Day events range from small gatherings to large, city-wide events.

Children of all ages are welcome to attend Giant Gymnastics’ Open Gym, though children three and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian in the gym. Adults are encouraged to come play as well, to get a taste of what it’s like to “play to exercise” as their Adult Gymnastics class does. Registration is highly suggested, as space will be limited. With two sessions, you can register for the 7-8 p.m. or 8-9 p.m. time slots.
