WANTAGE — The special assessment to pay for Wantage Township's work on the private Volcanic Hill Road will cost the road's property owners more than $134,000 over the next 10 years, Tax Assessor Kristy Lockburner recently annoucned.

Lockburner said she held a public hearing on April 16, where only two of the nine property owners were present.

The property owners' payment amount will change each year because the bonds are renewed annually, thus, resulting in different interest amounts, she said.

The Committee is expected adopt and confirm her report at Thursday's meeting so she may move forward with the billing.

Deputy Mayor Ronald Bassani asked about a few residents who were not 100 percent in favor of the township being responsible for the private road.

Lockburner said the two residents who attended were very pleased. One is putting the house up on the market and is retiring to Florida, so the timing is helpful.

Lockburner also said that she had driven on the road before it had been fixed and was afraid for the Township car. Now the road is very nice.

FEMA grant approved
Councilman Jon Morris said the Federal Emergency Management Agency Grant for the Colesville Fire Department generator had been approved. Once the paperwork is signed, the township will proceed with the project.

The Committee will need to amend the just adopted budget in May or June. The 2015 budget had been adopted unanimously on April 30th.
