Bikers take to the mountain to kick off opening day

VERNON — Warm temperatures and sunny skies welcomed bikers at the opening day for Mountain Creek's Bike Park this past weekend, May 2 to 3.

Mountain bikers from across the Garden State took to the summit and sped down the side of a mountain used in the winter for skiing. A ski lift is offered to transport bikers up to the top.

Trails carved into the mountainside accommodated bikers of all levels with designations of easiest to expert only.

Even the easiest trail can be a challenge but it didn't seem to phase many of the bikers as they careened down the mountain with ease.

Bikes and protective gear such as helmets and leg and arm pads are available to rent as well. And a bike wash station is located on site to remove any dirt or mud.

The bike park will remain open for the season through Nov. 1.
