Vernon Township High School photography students were recognized and awarded for their creative talents in their submissions to a Photography Exhibit on April 19 sponsored by the Vernon Township Historical Society.

The students are under the guidance and instruction of Terry Sabia, head of the high school photography department.

High School senior Brooke Graniere was the first-place winner for her silver gelatin black and white film, hand printed photograph, “Winter.” Her winning photograph was one of three she submitted to the exhibit.

The second-place winner was high school senior Heather Morris for her digital image, “Queen Anne’s Lace.” Senior Robert Martis took third place for his hand-printed, black and white silver gelatin film image entitled “Book Smart.”

Graniere, Morris, and Martis were among 20 photography students from the high school to exhibit their digital and hand-printed film works in the second annual “All About Vernon” photography exhibit by the Historical Society. Co-sponsors of the exhibit were Vernon Township High School and Aim Newspaper Photographer and Paramus High School photography teacher Dennis Dalelio.

Becky Beltrone, Samantha McNally, Alexis O’Connell, Sydney Thomas, and Erica Ventrone were awarded honorable mention ribbons for their photographs.

Paul Michael Kane, a professional photographer from Ogdensburg with an extensive background in photography, judged the entries in the exhibit. Kane uses the latest advances in digital media and traditional and alternative photographic processes for his visual communication.

Kane has exhibited his photographic work internationally and was published widely as a photographer, designer and a writer.

In addition to the students’ work, 17 adults also exhibited a total of 73 of their photographs.

The exhibit was a fundraiser for the Vernon Township Historical Society, a non-profit organization. All proceeds go towards its operations, its scholarships, and its many free programs for the community.
