Vernon Cyclones sweep Wildcats

    The undefeated 14-and-younger High Point Jr. Wildcats traveled to Vernon to take on the Vernon Cyclones in a doubleheader on April 26. The Cyclones swept the double header with 4-1 and 4-2 victories.

    Justin Lavorini pitched the first game for the Cyclones, giving up only 1 unearned run on four hits.

    The Wildcats took an early lead in the top of the first. Joey Swartz singled in the second to drive in Jadon Mutz to tie the score. Max Rodriguez doubled in the third inning and scored on a base hit by Adam Driscoll. In the fifth inning, Andrew Tomasula walked, which as followed by a base hit by Ryan Bell and a walk by Rodriguez, Driscoll came up and hit a base hit to left field, scoring two more runs giving the Cyclones a 4-1 lead and victory over the Wildcats.

    In the second game, George Gutierrez took the mound for the Cyclones letting up only an earned run on seven hits. The Cyclones took an early lead scoring three runs in the first inning by a lead-off walk by Bell, then a hit-by-pitch on Driscoll, followed by a double steel and a base hit to left field by Lavorini, scoring two runs, Mutz also drove in Lavorini with a base hit. The Cyclones scored one more time in the sixth inning on a walk from Bell, followed by a base hit from Rodriguez and with Gutierrez driving in the final run.
