First exclusive lash extension studio opens in Sparta

SPARTA — There is an expression “the eyes have it.”

And Tamara Stahl, owner of Discover Lash Extensions in Sparta, is looking to capitalize on that belief.

Stahl, a fully licensed cosmetologist for 30 years, opened her business last January after working as a nail technician at nearby Salon International where she also applied lashes two times a week.

As the demand for lashes grew, Stahl retired from nails to do lashing and opened Discover Lash Extensions so she could lash full-time.

“It transforms the eye — forget the mascara. It’s like getting an instant face lift,” said Stahl. “I went to get it done three years ago and loved it.”

Lash extensions are the latest in a high-end beauty trend that celebrities and stylists have been using for the past few years.

Awareness of this eye enhancement is increasing especially when Kelly Rippa of the ABC morning television show “Live with Kelly and Michael,” recently announced that she got her lashes applied before attending the Oscars.

“My phone was ringing off the hook after that,” said Stahl.

Lashes come in different lengths, curvatures and weights as well as classic versus volume.

“Individual synthetic mink lashes are attached to the existing lashes which shed out with your lashes," Stahl describes of the details.

Her extensive training allows her to apply the lashes safely and accurately. It takes up to two hours for a full set, and fill-ins are done every two to three weeks for 45 minutes.

“Proper weight of lashes is key. If the client's own lashes cannot support the lash, there will be damage to the natural lash,” said Stahl. “And they are hypo-allergenic — nothing touches you.”

In addition to lashes, the studio offers make-up application by the owner’s daughter professional make-up artist Dylann Stahl.

Dylann is trained in fashion and beauty make up as well as special FX focusing on bridal and special occasion makeup. She has worked in photography and just signed a contract to work on a crime TV series.

The duo believes in improving their skills and offering the best quality beauty services.

“I have always lived by the philosophy that you are never too good to learn. I am all about extended education and have also instilled this into Dylann, “ said Tamara Stahl.
