Art Etc Gallery was the setting on Saturday for a personal and intimate encounter with Wantage resident, poet, and author Nicholas D’Agostino to promote his recently published poetry collection, "Inside Out."

The book includes 123 original poems written over the last 10 years and which emphasize D’Agostino’s struggles with life while coping with a rare disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy or SMA. Both he and his twin brother, Anthony, were diagnosed with the disease at the age of 18 months and at the age of six years they were both confined to powered wheelchairs.

D’Agostino has also been working as a motivational speaker at various venues. During his presentation in Hamburg he noted that August is Spinal Muscular Atrophy Awareness Month and this August he intends to be part of a documentary that will raise awareness of the plight of those who must contend with the disease and the efforts being made to find a cure.
