The Sussex County YMCA will host Healthy Kids Day sponsored by Eastern Propane, a fun-filled free event to inspire families to stay active physically and mentally over the summer on Saturday, May 2.

Healthy Kids Day kicks off with a kickball tournament, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Starting at 1 p.m., families can test their fitness prowess in a boot camp-style obstacle course with tires, tunnels and balance beams.

Children can experience the fun of Y summer camp during the “Carnival Craze” from 1-4 p.m., playing parachute games and a bean bag toss, hula-hoop dancing, juggling, plate spinning, balloon stomping, and making stilts, masks and puppets. The fun includes face painting, tattoos, and animal balloons. Families can enjoy the pool during that time too.

Guests will “go bananas for healthy kids,’’ enjoying some of the 2,500 bananas donated by Floyd Avillo, president of RLB Food Distributors, to the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges, the largest association of YMCAs in New Jersey. Community vendors will share healthy tips and interactive presentations, and the Sussex County Y will give away a bicycle to one boy and one girl.

“We hope to inspire families to make every day of summer a ‘healthy kids day’ by incorporating learning and activity into their routine,’’ said Sussex Count Y Executive Director Jennifer Gardner. “The Y is committed to helping families thrive and building a strong community.’’
