Civil Air Patrol member Cadet, Second Lieutenant Daniel Banas from the Picatinny Composite Squadron received the General Billy Mitchell Award from U.S. Rep. Scott Garrett on April 7, 2015.

Banas is a sophomore at High Point High School.

The award is named in honor of Billy Mitchell, who proved to the U.S. Army and Navy the importance of Air Power that could be used on Aircraft Carriers prior to World War II.

The General Billy Mitchell Award is one of Civil Air Patrol’s most prestigious cadet honors. In existence since 1964, it marks the graduation from cadet enlisted ranks to cadet officer where cadets take on greater leadership roles. To receive this award, cadets must pass comprehensive leadership and aerospace exams as well as a rigorous physical fitness test. In addition, they are expected to exhibit very mature behavior, to be highly responsible and to demonstrate leadership skills.
