Colleen Aquino of Vernon, is one of 119 people who pledged to perform 10 months of national service as part of the Southern Region’s 21st class of the National Civilian Community Corps, as a member of FEMA Corps.

As part of her service, Aquino spent 10 months serving with the Federal Emergency Management Agency in the administration of emergency management and long-term recovery activities.

“I have grown both personally and professionally in a diverse group, while traveling the nation. I believe I have gained knowledge and skills, not only in emergency management, but in service leadership, all throughout this program,” Aquino said.

Aquino will graduate on May 7, 2015, with an education award of up to $5,730, which can be used to continue education or pay back qualified student loans.

“I plan to continue my service another 10 months with AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps as a Support Team Leader at the Southern Region Campus,” Aquino said.
