Sussex adopts 2015 budget

The Sussex Borough Council approved its 2015 budget with five members voting for it and only Councilman Robert Holowach abstaining.

The budget calls for $1,416,594 in appropriations and just less than $919,000 will be raised by taxation. That number does not include school and county taxes.

Officials said they will know the total tax levy in June after the school and county budgets are adopted.

Historical Resolution
The council unanimously adopted a Civil War resolution honoring the 150th anniversary of the end of the War on April 9, 1985, at the Appomattox Court House in Virginia. In honor of the anniversary, the National Park Service encouraged all churches, schools, historic sites, municipalities, and any other institutions to ring their bells for four minutes, one minute for each year of the war.

The resolution recognized, honored and expressed the Mayor and Council's gratitude for the great service of the 41 Deckertown (now Sussex Borough) men and all who fought to preserve and protect
