    — Through a brand new 12-week program offered by Sussex County Community College, aspiring pharmacy technicians can get the training, certification, and practical experience they need to gain a competitive advantage in the hiring process.

Students will have the opportunity to work at area pharmacies as part of the program. AandP, the Medicine Shoppe in Hopatcong, Andover Apothecary, ShopRite and other chain and independent pharmacies will provide on-site training for students.

Pharmacy Technician positions present a good opportunity to join the healthcare field at the entry level. Pharmacy Technicians help licensed pharmacists dispense prescription medications to customers and other healthcare professionals in both retail and hospital settings.

According to a news release from the college, upon completion of the program, students will have received essential training in medication education, dispensing of prescriptions, third-party billing procedures, and HIPAA compliance.

The Pharmacy Technician Program at SCCC is offered in a unique online format along with a 160-hour externship. Assignments will be given weekly, and upon successful completion of the program, students are awarded a certificate and become eligible to sit for the PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam.

The program begins on May 4, however, registration is necessary by April 20 in order to facilitate the admission process in a timely fashion.
