The Friends of the Sussex-Wantage Library welcomed the Concert Choir of the Children's Chorus of Sussex County for a free sneak preview of its upcoming spring concert on Sunday, April 12th at 3 p.m. in the library's community room.

The choir consists of young singers in grades 7 through 12.

Hailing from Sussex and Warren County as well as Pennsylvania, these young artists rehearse twice weekly at Christ Episcopal Church in Newton. Last July, the Concert Choir performed at the Kathaumixw, an International choral competition in Powell River, British Columbia, where they met and performed with choirs from many foreign countries. They earned a second-place prize in the Children's Choir category after the Taipei Children's Choir of Taiwan.

The Children's Chorus of Sussex County was invited to premiere to be certain of the Dawn, a Holocaust oratorio composed by the late American composer, Stephen Paulus at Carnegie Hall in May 2014. Because of that performance, the choir has been invited to perform this summer at the Festival of the Aegean on the island of Syros, Greece.

The Children's Chorus of Sussex County strives to perform choral music of varied styles and musical periods. Deborah Mello, artistic director is committed to providing music of the highest quality for the choristers to learn and perform.

For the Sussex-Wantage Library performance they will feature selections from their Spring repertoire, which will include some standard folk song arrangements such as Michael Mendoza's multi-metered arrangement of "Skip to My Lou," as well as some Spanish language selections, "Plena" by the Puerto Rican composer, "Diana Saez" and "Te Quiero" by the Argentinian composer, Alberto Favero.

Also included on the program will be "Arise My Love" by Joan Szymko and "Psalm 8" by Dan Forrest, contemporary American composers.

The Sussex-Wantage Library is located at 69 Route 639 in Wantage. For more information, please contact the library at 973-875-3940.
