Local gymnasts rise against competition

— The annual North Stars March Madness Meet competition is open to Xcel and J.O. gymnasts, and attracts gyms from all over New Jersey.

For Sparta’s Garden Gators, it was their third meet of this size this year, although the first in New Jersey.

Following their successes at Red Rose and the Janet Rothenberg Memorial meets, the gymnasts are no longer new to the large span of competition.

As a team, the Xcel Gold gymnasts came home with the third place team trophy, which adds to the three team trophies already earned at their other three meets this season.

The Bronze team, comprised of just three gymnasts, Fiona Postas, Cameron Volpe and Kate Sutphen, came home with the first place bronze team award.

This is especially impressive, as team awards are calculated using the three top scores of a team in each event. With just three gymnasts in the Bronze level, that meant each of their scores helped them gain the prize.

Giant Gymnastics of Sparta’s Garden Gators will compete again in a few weeks at their sister gym in Hackettstown for the Garden Classic II.
