Boy scout troop goes skiing

It was early in the morning on Feb. 28 but scouts in Troop 84 and their family members had a great time at High Point State Park as they took to the trails for cross country skiing.

By lunchtime, it had warmed and some switched to snowshoeing for the second half of the day.

Later on, five Venture Scouts, boys aged 14 and older, had the opportunity to be the first ones to ever camp overnight in the winter camp site, which was opened by High Point State Park for the first time. These intrepid young men willingly took on more challenging activities that included working together to dig out a camp site, build a fire and pitch their tents, all while braving the bitter cold.

Boy Scout Troop 84 meets at the Sussex United Methodist Church, 15 Bank Street, Sussex, on Wednesday nights from 7:30-9 p.m. Any boy between the ages of 11 and 17 is welcome, no prior experience required.
