Sussex Borough Mayor Jonathan Rose, a Republican, recently announced his plans to run for one of two open seats on the Sussex County Board of Chosen Freeholders.

Rose submitted a petition on Monday, March 23.

The primary is scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, and will feature four candidates vying for two Republican nominations for November's general election.

The intra-party battle for the two ballot slots also will feature incumbent Dennis Mudrick (R-Sparta), Frankford Mayor Gary Larson, Fredon Mayor Carl Lazarro

Larson has previously run for the office. Incumbent freeholder Gail Phoebus is running for state Assembly.

Lazarro publicly criticized the settlement and the way SunLight General Capital was treating his town, at the freeholder meeting before the settlements were approved.

No Democratic petitions have been filed.
