Cedar Mountain holds paleontology program

Cedar Mountain School hosted the second of three presentations by paleontologist John Miller of the Gillette-based Pearl Observatory on Tuesday, March 24.

Some 40 students, along with their parents, enjoyed an enthusiastic presentation by Miller as he allowed them to handle million-year-old fossils. Following his initial presentation that included giant meglodon shark teeth and a fossilized dinosaur egg, each student was given a tray of ancient debris from which they could find shark teeth, coral, sea urchin spines, bones, and more.

Twenty years ago Miller was working as a consultant for the Newark Museum in their Education Enrichment Program.

It was then that he realized that there was a need for fun and lasting enrichment programs for children and adults. He has been on the road with his programs ever since.
