Albert Weemstra

    Albert Weemstra, 82, passed away at his home in Wantage on Monday, March 23, 2015. Albert was born in The Netherlands on February 7, 1933, to the late Imke and Henrietta (nee Pol) Weemstra.

    In 1953, at 20 years old Albert arrived in Canada. While in Canada he met his wife while she was on vacation. In 1957, Albert moved to the United States and married Margaret Kuiper. He had many occupations during his life time, a farm hand, a miner at the Ogdensburg Mine, a welder at the R.S. Phillips Steel, and then as a union laborer in local 913 Dover, N.J., for many years serving as their secretary-treasurer and in 1996 he retired. Albert was a member of the Sussex Christian Reformed Church for 35 years. He is a life member of the Wantage Twp. First Aid Squad serving for more than 25 years. He was a former E.M.T. instructor for Sussex County. He was one of the first members and past president of the High Point Regional H.S. Wildcat Booster Club. Albert and his wife Margaret wintered in Fort Myers, Fla., for 15 years. He enjoyed gardening, as well as spending time with his family.

    He was predeceased by his sister Rika Vos.

    Albert is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Margaret (nee Kuiper) Weemstra, his daughters, Irene Slate and husband, Donald, of Wantage, Helene Watson and husband, Dr. B.T. Watson, III of Yorktown, Va., Janet Worthington and husband, Paul, of Ogdensburg, and Nancy Orr and husband, Troy, of Branchville, and his cherished grandchildren, Denise, Gregory and Eric Bennett, Patrick and Jeffrey Watson and wife, Ramsey, Brad and Alex Worthington, Nathan, Seth and Rachel Orr, his brother Jan Weemstra and wife, Siene, his sister Grietje Kramer and husband Harm, and brother-in-law Jos Vos, all of the Netherlands as well as many nieces and nephews.

    Relatives and friends will be received on Friday March 27, from 4-8 p.m. with EMS services at 7 p.m. at the Ferguson Funeral Home, 27 Third St., Sussex, N.J., and are invited to attend funeral services on Saturday March 28, at 10 a.m. at the Sussex Christian Reformed Church 51 Unionville Ave., Sussex, N.J., committal interment services at Clove Cemetery.
