Church’s youth group bakes for those in need

Members of the Vernon United Methodist Church’s youth group got a break from their homework on Sunday, March 22, so they could get elbow-deep in banana bread to aid those who are dependant on the church’s food pantry.

Using fresh ingredients eight boys and three girls pitched in to help youth group leaders Davida Schnebelen and Lisa Ferruggia prepare about 20 loafs of the bread, which will be added to ham, fruit pies, and canned pineapple and vegetables to make up Easter baskets for those in need.

The food pantry is open from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Their shelves empty quickly and donations of non perishables food items are always welcome. They may be brought to the church during office hours (Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.) or on Sunday during church hours.

To find out what food items need replenishing, you may contact the church office at 973-764-3188 or admin@vernonmethodist.org.
