The Wantage Committee honored and helped provide for members of the local community at their Feb. 26th meeting.

First, Mayor Bill Gaechter read a Mayor's Proclamation honoring Cub Scout Pack 84 at the Committee's Feb. 26 meeting. Tyler Shorr and Randy Shorr received the framed proclamation on behalf of Pack 84.

Gaechter said the Shorr family has been very involved in scouting. Their dad, Mike Shorr, also attended the meeting.

Next, the Committee voted unanimously to donate $20,000 from their Affordable Housing Trust Fund to Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity is proposing to complete a project for a single family home in Wantage. The Affordable Housing Trust Fund is collected from developers for this purpose.

“You either use it or lose it, or the State of NJ will come in and take it away from us,” Administrator James Doherty said. He said that it is best to use the money on the local level instead of Trenton having it.

Attorney Glenn Kienz will contact Habitat for Humanity and work up the paperwork for the donation.
