Saturday evening saw the congregation of the Vernon United Methodist Church bring back the long-standing tradition of its annual Chili Cook Off.

About 40 church members and their friends and family attended. It is part of the congregation’s ongoing efforts to add a little fun to their gathering and fellowship time.

According to organizer Len Geisler, Lisa Bischoff was the winner of the “Golden Pepper” award for the best tasting pot of chili. Geisler himself won the award for the “hottest" pot of chili.

The sampling cups each had a number written on their bottoms so that each chili chef remained anonymous.
