Vernon academic decathlon team wins medals

The Vernon Township High School Academic Decathlon team competed recently against Morris County schools with a relatively new team.

Despite their inexperience, many team members brought home medals. Jacob Gehrig and John Allogio, seniors and team veterans, won a gold and silver medal, respectively, in mathematics.

Ryan Maass, a freshman, won a silver medal in Language and Literature; Rose Woltoff won a bronze medal in economics; Alex Molini, won a bronze medal in Essay; Maya Rakoczy, Matt Maass and Ryan Maass all won silver medals in music in their respective competition levels.

Honorable mentions were awarded to the following regular competition Matthew Maass, Language and Literature, Art, and Social Science; Maya Rakoczy, interview; Ryan Maass, Economics; Allison Specht, Art; John Allogio and Rose Wolthoff, Science.

Alternate competitors also competed for their own medals.

The winners included: Daniella Comizio won a gold medal in Language and Literature and Science; Victoria Gonzalez won a bronze medal in the same category at the Honors level. In Economics, Michael Martis won a bronze medal and Sam Wolthoff, a silver medal. Martis also won a bronze medal in Science. Sam Woltoff also won a gold medal in Social Science. In music, Sam Annunziata won a silver medal, and David MacMillan, a bronze medal.
