The Newton Theatre welcomes back The Glenn Miller Orchestra on Saturday, July 12 at 8 p.m.

With its unique jazz sound, The Glenn Miller Orchestra has been entertaining audiences since the 1930s. The present Glenn Miller Orchestra was formed in 1956 and has been touring consistently since, playing an average of 300 live dates a year all around the world.

The band was formed in the 1930s by American musician, arranger, composer and bandleader Glenn Miller, who was one of the best-selling artists of the 30s and 40s.

“A band ought to have a sound all of its own," Miller mused. "It ought to have a personality.”

Miller's notable and record-breaking recordings and top 10 hits include "In the Mood," "Moonlight Serenade," "Chattanooga Choo Choo," "A String of Pearls," "At Last," "(I've Got a Gal In) Kalamazoo," "Tuxedo Junction," and "Little Brown Jug."

Sadly, in 1944 while he was traveling to entertain U.S. troops in France during World War II, Glenn Miller's aircraft disappeared in bad weather over the English Channel and he was never seen again.

Tickets for The Glenn Miller Orchestra cost $39 for premium seating, $34 for orchestra and $29 for balcony. Purchase tickets by visiting www.thenewtontheatre.com or contact the box office at 973-383-3700.
