The students of Glen Meadow Middle School on Friday worked as competing teams to benefit the Harvest House Community Lunch Program in the ninth fundraising volleyball tournament, and it raised a total of $1,110.

The seventh- and eighth-grade students were divided into eight or 10 teams and contributed $4 each, or $40 per team to compete in the series of volleyball games.

According to Assistant Principal Eric Kosek, the Glen Meadow Middle School Physical Education Department, along with help from the faculty, staff, students, and parents, organized the event.

The winning teams were: Ninja Turtles (first place), Agile Bolders (second place), Sets on the Beach (third place), and The Lucky Charms (fourth place).

The tournament was a double-elimination tournament, so each team was guaranteed the opportunity to play at least two games.

“This tournament has become a Glen Meadow tradition as well as a big fundraiser for Harvest House," Kosek said.

Food donations also were also collected to be brought to the Vernon food pantries located at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church, Holy Counselor Lutheran Church, and St. Francis de Sales Roman Catholic Church.
