Mountain Creek’s Riglet Park continues to teach youth basics of snowboarding

This past fall, Mountain Creek successfully introduced the sport of snowboarding to more than 500 students in Vernon elementary schools through the Burton Riglet Physical Education Program, an initiative that teaches the basic movements of snowboarding using four activity-based stations during students’ regularly scheduled P.E. classes.

With the winter season in full swing, Mountain Creek’s team of snowboard instructors has seen more and more of the young students’ smiling faces out on the slopes, progressing upon skills they picked up during the Riglet Program in the fall.

“Seeing the program come full circle is one of the proudest moments in my Snow Sports career,” said Tim Stone, Mountain Creek Ski & Snowboard School Director. “It's so captivating to see these young kids become engaged with a winter sport, especially when they recognize their instructors and shout out, ‘Hey, I remember you from school!’”

Demitry Mitchell, a student from Walnut Ridge Elementary School who participated in the Riglet P.E. Program, is seen in the attached photo learning new tricks and skills at the farm-themed Riglet Park located at the base of Mountain Creek Ski Resort. The Riglet Park is a dedicated location that teaches kids to learn through play thanks to the assistance of the Riglet Snowboard, which allows instructors to guide students on flat ground and teach proper balancing techniques before tackling the mountain’s terrain.

Free sessions are available on weekends and holidays. For more information, visit mountaincreek.com/rigletpark.
