| 30 Jan 2015 | 03:42

Sussex Borough officials have issued a precautionary boil-water advisory beginning at 11 p.m. Feb. 2 for the customers of the Sussex Water Dept.

Officials said the advisory is being issued due to a previously unused water main being put into service in the area of the Loomis Avenue Bridge.

This water main will be put into service to prepare for the ongoing DOT construction work occurring along Route 23 beginning on or around Wednesday, Feb. 4.

Beginning 11 p.m. Feb. 2 and until further notice, residents are instructed to bring tap water to a rolling boil for 1 minute and allow the tap water to cool prior using for: drinking, preparing foods, washing vegetables and fruit, cooking, making ice cubes, taking medications, brushing teeth, and mixing baby formula, food, juices or drinks.

The DEP also reminds residnets to: throw away uncooked food or beverages or ice cubes if made with tap water during the day of the

advisory; keep boiled water in the refrigerator for drinking; do not swallow water while showering or bathing; rinse hand-washed dishes with a diluted bleach solution (1 tablespoon of household bleach per

gallon of tap water) or clean your dishes in a dishwasher using the hot wash cycle and dry cycle.

Do not use home filtering devices in place of boiling or using bottled water.
