Vernon Township High School’s DECA has participated in a variety of fundraisers to donate money to The Seeing Eye.

Brianna Ryan, DECA president, and Taylor Van Noordt, DECA treasurer, have announced The Seeing Eye, which trains Seeing Eye dogs for the visually impaired, as the New Jersey DECA charity of the year. Each high school chapter is requested to raise a minimum donation of $600 for the organization.

The Seeing Eye is located in Morristown, N.J., and supplies Seeing Eye Dogs nationwide. Dogs are trained at this location from a young age until they are paired with someone in need. When a visually impaired person contacts the organization, they fly out to the Morristown location and train with a Seeing Eye dog. Together, the dog and person work together to complete a variety of obstacles. The person in need is not asked to pay for their Seeing Eye dog and the training they receive; the organization is only donation-based.

The two DECA officers on Jan. 10 organized a teacher dress-down day at Vernon Township High School. This allowed the high school faculty and staff to dress casually in return for a small donation to the charity. This, combined with the bake sale outside the A&P, helped DECA achieve its goal.
