Dance academy collects donations for fire victim

Recently widowed former Vernon Township Historical Society president Joan Magura lost her home at 5 Sleepy Hollow Road in Vernon on Jan. 8 to a fast-moving fire that began in the furnace area of the home’s basement.

As a result of the fire, Magura lost nearly all her possessions. Since then, members of the community have been collecting donations, including Barry Lakes-based Pizazz! Dance Academy. Academy director Sherry Mudrick has been networking to have her students help collect donations to aid Margura. Donations needed include clothes, medium-sized blouses and coats, size 5 pants, size 7 shoes, food and gift cards, and gas cards.

With a focus on affordability, the academy holds classes at the Barry Lakes Clubhouse located at 76 Wawayanda Road, about one mile north of Breakneck Road. Donations are being collected through Feb. 2 and may be left in a covered area on the front porch of the clubhouse, where they will be picked up daily. •
